Favorite Mac Paint Pots

So anyone who's ever met or has ever watched any of my videos knows I'm OBSESSED with the Mac Paint Pots.  Not only do they act as a great primer/base, but a lot of them are good to use on their own as well!  Therefore, I thought I'd make a video highlighting some of my favorites.  Check it out!

What do you guys think?  Do you have any other favorites?

My Go-To Look

I think most people have go-to looks that they know will look great and they can apply with their eyes shut.  It’s important to have at least one of these in your back pocket so when you don’t have a lot of time or you’re just too tired to try something new you can quickly and easily apply this.  As I've mentioned in other posts I'm obsessed with Mac's Naked Lunch eye shadow, so that is definitely the first thing I reach for when I'm running late (aka every morning I have to wake up before noon).  So I thought I'd share a video on my favorite look, which is also super easy and fast!

BB Creams, CC Creams, DD Creams....What the What?

BB & CC creams are all the rage now.  If you still use regular foundation people look at you like "Ha...you don't use a (insert BB/CC) cream?! That's so bad for you...".  While that is not necessarily true, there are definitely some benefits to using them.  Here are my thoughts on the various creams vs foundation.

Tinted Moisturizers:  These are exactly what they sound like; moisturizers with a bit of color.  Usually they provide very little coverage and they're best for applying underneath foundation if you want to give your skin a bit of color.  Most have SPF and they do everything a moisturizer is supposed to do; hydrate, prevent-aging, rejuvenate skin etc.

My favorite is the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.  I love her primers, they're phenomenal so I decided to try out her Tinted Moisturizer and I love it!   It's lightweight and not too greasy and you get a nice, even tone from it with a bit of color.

BB Cream (Beauty Balm Cream): BB Creams are essentially tinted moisturizers with better ingredients for your skin.  They usually have some level of SPF, anti-oxidants, extra hydrating ingredients, and more coverage than a tinted moisturizer.  They're a great alternative to tinted moisturizers if you want something more in-between a foundation and a moisturizer.

I personally love Urban Decay's Naked Skin Beauty Balm as it provides just enough coverage for days when I don't want to go all out with my makeup, but still want something on my skin.  It's also super light-weight so you barely feel as though you're wearing any makeup.  It has SPF 20 in it so you don't really need to wear sunscreen with it.  The only negative is it doesn't come in any colors so it's really only for wearing underneath foundation or if you just want to even out your skin.

The other BB Cream I really like is Too Faced's Tinted Beauty Balm.  This one I love because it offers all the benefits of the Naked Skin but it comes in 5 different colors so you can add a little extra color to your face if you like.  This one is a little heavier than the Naked Skin and I personally think provides more coverage so I'll wear this on it's own.

Urban Decay - Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20Too Faced - Tinted Beauty Balm SPF 20

CC Cream (Color Correcting Cream): The biggest difference between BB Creams and CC Creams is CC Creams are better for people with redness or uneven skin tones.  CC creams tend to even out the skin's tone a little more and they're generally lighter than BB Creams.  They usually feel more whipped or light weight than a BB Cream and as a product that came after the BB Creams, they usually try to one-up them in terms of what they offer.  Generally CC Creams have SPF, hydrating ingredients, light diffusing particles, and more anti-oxidants than BB Creams.

My absolute favorite CC Cream is the Bobbi Brown CC Cream.  I wear this stuff a ton in the summer as it's super lightweight but really evens out my skin tone.  It provides just enough coverage and really gives your skin an almost diffused effect, making it great for pictures as well.  I recently recommended this to one of my friends for her engagement photos and her skin looked radiant in them!  It's really a phenomenal product!

Bobbi Brown - CC Cream SPF 35

DD Creams (Daily Defense):  DD Creams were initially poised to be a BB/CC Cream hybrid for your body that you could apply all over your skin.  There are also now more and more DD Creams for your face, each one using different terms for what the DD stands for e.g. Dynamic, Do-All, Dermatologist's Dream etc.  These are generally a combination of the 2 previously mentioned creams, with even more anti-oxidants, more anti-aging ingredients, more everything.  The ingredients/benefits of DD Creams vary depending on which one you purchase, but in general they're meant to have more benefits, while providing a higher level of coverage.

I personally haven't tried it yet but Julep's DD Creme is supposed to be phenomenal.  The biggest benefit I've heard about this cream is that it provides all of the above-mentioned benefits and it works really well to prevent aging.  I'll have to test it out and let you know!

Foundation:  This one is pretty self explanatory.  It provides way more coverage than BB or CC Creams and is generally used to cover any skin problems.  Additionally, most BB and CC Creams come in very few colors, while foundations come in thousands of tones.  I think if you're going out for the night or want something more heavy-duty, using a BB or CC Cream as a base/primer and then applying foundation over it is the way to go.  Foundation just covers so much more than any BB or CC Cream ever could.  Additionally, foundations are great because you can mix the colors to get the right shade for your skin tone and there are so many different formulas out there; liquid, powder, cream, mousse etc.

I have a whole article devoted to my favorite foundations so I won't go into detail here about my favorites, but I love foundations because there are always new products coming out and new ones to try!

Honestly, I think a BB, CC, DD etc. cream has a lot more to do with marketing and trying to introduce something new and exciting to the consumers than anything, but there are some definite benefits to them.  The differences between all of them are so subtle and it really varies more-so on the brand than it being a "BB" or "CC" Cream.  While I love the ones I mentioned, unless you're a huge tinted moisturizer fan for every day use or you despise foundation I wouldn't necessarily run out and purchase these.  They're great for what they are and definitely fun to try but I think they're a bit hyped up.  So for now I'd stick with your tried and tested foundation whatever that may be.

What do you guys think?  Have you tried any BB, CC or DD creams that you can't live without?

Bridal Makeup

It can be really expensive to get your makeup done for your wedding!  Makeup artists can charge anywhere upwards of $500 a person to do your makeup.  Therefore, whether you chose to attempt it yourself or get it done it's always good to have an idea of what you want.  As I've said before I love golds and purples and any colors that really make your eyes pop!  So, I decided to make a video to give an idea of a look you can use!

Mac Earth Palette Look

Mac offers these great eye shadow palettes of 4 different colors that are great for beginners, or people who are unsure which colors to mix.  I recently purchased this really pretty one that has yellows and browns, all of which look great alone or mixed with the other colors.  I decided to do a look showing of the ways in which you can use these palettes, and using bright spring colors to go with it.  Hope you guys enjoy!

Gold Copper Look

I'm obsessed with my Mac Pressed Pigments.  I think they're so great, especially if you love really bright or sparkly eyes.  I recently purchased a bunch and I've been trying a variety of different looks using them.  I tried out this golden copper look and I am absolutely loving it!  It's so pretty and not too obnoxiously sparkly that you couldn't wear it to work.  I tried to use as few colors as possible so it'd be easy to do.  Hope you guys like it!

Awesome Blue/Green Eye

So lately I've been experimenting with more vivid, bright eye shadows.  I've also been trying to use eye shadow that is not Mac (it's been hard lol).  So, I recently purchased this awesome Cargo Palette that has blue, green, and purples in it.  The colors are so fun and super bright!  I loved trying something different and really doing something fun.  This look definitely isn't for everyone but if you're a makeup junkie like me then you should definitely try this out!  Let me know what you think!

Naked 3 Palette Look

When I first started doing videos I did a look using my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette but the lighting was horrible so it was hard to see exactly what I was doing.  I love the palette so much, there are so many different looks you can do with it, everything from a light almost nude eye to a dark smokey eye.  I love the rose pink colors in it and the dark purples.  I made a new video with a bit of a darker look than my last one so check it out!

Turquoise Eye Shadow

So you know those shades that you see every time you go into a store but you never know when you'd actually wear it?  Well there's this gorgeous turquoise shade, Aquadisiac, that I see every time I go into Mac and am obsessed with but I 'm always like when am I actually going to wear this?  Well I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase it and I have never been more happy!

I used the turquoise on my lids and then some lighter mixed with a darker blue colors for the crease so as to not be too in-your-face and I think it came off really nicely!  What do you think?

Mink 3D Prints Makeup

So my friend sent me this article today.  Basically you buy this printer and the supplies, and then by choosing whatever color you like you can make your own makeup.  It's pretty cool.  The concept I think is phenomenal, how great would it be if you needed a specific color and you could just be like 'ohhh..I think I'll print it".

The thing I don't like about this though is it takes away the inspiration you get entering a makeup store.  There are so many products I would never have even though of getting that I walk out with when I go to Sephora and don't even get me started on Mac.  Plus right now it's still on the pricey side since it's in the beginning.

It's very new-age and an awesome idea.  We'll see how the concept pans out but pretty cool to think about.  What do you guys think?

Simple Makeup for the Office/Work

I know a lot of people who don't like wearing a lot of makeup to work, who don't have time or who just work in professions where too much makeup is unprofessional.  That being said there are ways you can wear makeup without looking like you're wearing makeup.  I tried to make a video that not only would be office appropriate, but that would be a quick, fast look that you could apply quickly in the morning before work.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

Pop of Color: Green Eyes

I love bright colors to play around with on the weekends or for photoshoots.  They're just so much fun and there's so much you can do with it!  My go-to is usually purple, which I've done in a few tutorials so far.  So this time I thought I would try green!  I have to give credit to the amazing girl at Mac who helped me pick out some of these colors, but I'm so glad I did!  I'm loving the brightness of the look and how fun it is!  Check out the video and tell me what you think!

Drugstore Haul

Living in NYC nothing is cheap.  So unfortunately here the difference between drugstore makeup and higher end makeup is minimal.  Therefore, I've found myself buying less drugstore makeup, not because of the quality but just because of the price.  It can cost $15 for a bottle of liquid concealer from Maybelline and $23 for a bottle from Mac.  However, I know that in the rest of America purchasing drugstore makeup can be way less expensive so I've decided to do a Haul purchasing a few different products that I've used in the the past and loved and then later post some tutorials with those products.

My favorite drugstore brand hands-down is Maybelline.  They have every kind of makeup and everything I've ever used by them has been amazing!  Almay is great for sensitive skin and Covergirl is of course classic.

So check out my Haul video and see my reviews!

Simple Smokey Eye with the Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette

I am officially obsessed with my Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette.  I did a look not too long ago using it but using lighter colors, this time I wanted to try out a smokey eye.  There are so many different looks that can be done with this palette and it was only $36!!  There are a few different palettes that I think I might pick up.  The colors are great and they really last all day.  Check out my video to see my really simple smokey eye!

BITE BEAUTY Deconstructed Rose Lip Gloss Library

I recently purchased a Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon and loved it!  The color was super pigmented and it's a great in-between lip liner/lipstick.  You really only need that one product and you're good to go.  If you've watched my videos you've seen most of my lipstick is Mac so I was really excited to find a new lip product that I loved!

Recently, Bite Beauty came out with this Deconstructed Rose Lip Gloss Library, which consists of 12 glosses, in the most beautiful colors.  They're super pigmented so they stay on really well throughout the course of the day and there is such a wide variety of colors, everything from pale pink, to coral, to red, to purple.  I love all of them!

If you're a big lip gloss person you know that purchasing them individually can get really expensive.  Lip glosses generally run anywhere from $15-20.  This set was only $49 which I was really excited about because their lip glosses are usually $22.

I'm loving this set so I definitely recommend it for all fellow lip gloss lovers :)
